Anne Deal Whitten

Ms. Whitten is survived by her husband of 56 years, Glever "Harrison" Whitten, Jr.; two sons and their wives, Bobby Whitten and wife Patty, and Jimmy Whitten and wife Mary Ann; five grandchildren, Sarah Whitten Cochran, Amy Whitten, Mary Margaret Whitten, Harrison Whitten and Michael Whitten; as well as one great-grandchild, Eliza Cochran; and her brother, Dr. Robert Deal.

Anne was born in Charlotte, NC, and later moved to Richmond with her parents, Robert and Sally Deal. Her extensive education included Thomas Hefferson High School, William and Mary College, Richmond Professional Institute and the Medical College of Virginia, where she received a degree in medical tech.

Her main occupation in life was to care for and nurture her family. A dedicated wife and mother, her two sons were the benefactors of her endless hours of school tutoring and guidance. Anne's interests outside her family were playing bridge, entertaining her many friends and spending time at the river with her devoted husband.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Westwood Racquet Club and the Indian Creek Country Club.

Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, August 13, from 5-7 pm. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 14, at 1 pm at Second Baptist Church at Gaskins and River Road. Interment at Greenwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen VA 23060.
