Lyle Mitchell Norcross

Mr. Norcross, formerly of Waynesboro, VA, died peacefully in his Richmond home Sunday evening. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Joyce Ann Norcross, and by his only daughter, Stephanie Norcross Thornton, his son-in-law, John Turner Thornton, and his granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Thornton, all of Kennett Square, PA; by his mother, Willie Berry Norcross, of Lexington, VA; by one brother, Douglass Norcross; and five sisters: Carol Moore, Artie Black, Betty Painter, Mary Jarvis, and Emma Shelton. He was predeceased by his father, Lyle C. Norcross and by two sisters, Elizabeth Houser and Ruby Jarvis.

He was born in Rockbridge County, VA and was a retiree of IBM. He was a four-time recipient of the Distinguished IBM Means and Service Award, and worked out of the Charlottesville brandh office as a field engineer for 21 years. In 1988 he transferred to Richmond to become the installation planner for Virginia and worked in the downtown office for 9 years before retiring.

He was an avid reader and prided himself in always having a new joke on hand. His hobbies were NASCAR racing, playing golf and working crossword puzzles. He was a devoted father, grandfather, son and sibling; and he took every opportunity to spend time with his family and make them laugh.

The family will receive visitors at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 13. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Road, Richmond VA. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. later that afternoon at New Providence Church Cemetery in Brownsburg, VA.
