She was born in Victoria, British Columbia, the daughter of John and Susan McMullen. She grew up in Truro, Nova Scotia, and attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A lifelong educator, her first teaching experience was in a one-room school in rural Nova Scotia. She married Stuart M. Mosher in 1936 and the couple moved to New York City. She taught at elementary schools in Brooklyn, NY, McAllen, TX, and Fairfax, VA, and was a principal at schools in Fairfax, one of which was honored as a Flagship School by the State of Virginia.
Ms. Mosher earned a B.A. and a Master's degree in Education from George Washington University and served the Fairfax schools for 27 years before retiring in 1975. After retirement, she participated in civic organizations, including the Ginter Park Woman's Club, the Board of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She also was a member of Second Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Elizabeth, and a grandson, Scott M. Riddick. She is survived by her son, Frederick M. Mosher, and his wife Nanette, of Freeport, IL; by a daughter, Susan D Riddick, and her husband David, of ManakinSabot. Her grandchildren include Frederick C. Mosher and his wife Alison, of Chicago, IL; Theodore M. Mosher of Clementon, NJ; Emily S. Costos and her husband Nickolas of Dallas, FA; Jennifer Gorman and her husband Robert of Norcross, GA; Gregory Riddick of Charlottesville; Christopher Riddick and his wife Stacy, of Urbanna; and Rebekah McCormick and her husband Scott of Warrington. In addition, she is survived by five great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Lakewood Manor on Wednesday, May 17, at 3 p.m. It is asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Edith's name to the Second Baptist Church, River Road, Richmond VA, or to Lakewood Manor, 1900 Lauderdale Drive, Richmond VA 23238
