He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Thomas McIntosh; his son, William A. McIntosh and his wife, Mary Kathryn S. McIntosh, of Lynchburg; his daughter, Anne Lawrence McIntosh, of Richmond; two granddaughters, Kathryn Leigh McIntosh Zabriskie and her husband, Christopher T. Zabriskie, of Port Tobacco, MD, and Jane Alexander McIntosh, of New York, NY; by a great-grandson, Thomas A. Zabriskie; by his sister, Jane M. Barden, and sister-in-law, Jane B. McIntosh, of Memphis TN, brother-in-law, Richard A. Thomas, Jr., of Livingston TN. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Charles Anthony McIntosh; his stepmother, Catherine Smith McIntosh; and brother, John A. McIntosh, Jr. He was the son of the late Dr. John A. McIntosh and Marian Ethyl Brown McIntosh.
He entered the U. S. Army in 1940 and over the course of 24 years of military servicehe carried out a broad range of command and staff assignments in Germany, Japan, France, and the U.S. He retired in 1963 with the rank of major. He then entered Union Theological Seminary/Presbyterian School of Christian Education and was ordained in 1965. He served in the Richmond area as pastor of Chesterfield Baptist, associate pastor of Parkview Baptist (now Patterson Avenue Baptist), and pastor of Leigh Street Baptist. He retired briefly in 1983. He has served 20 years as a minister to senior adults at Second Baptist Church (River Road at Gaskins).
A memorial service will be held at Second Baptist Church on Sunday, June 26, at 4 p.m., with a reception for those in attendance immediately following in the Family Life Center. Private burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
