He is survived by his wife, Helen Martin Laughon ; a son, Fred T. Laughon, III, and his wife, Vivi Bergh Laughon; a daughter, Neville E. Laughon; two granddaughters, Tovi Laughon Heffron and Lissi Laughon Rabon.
He was educated in the public schools of Portsmouth, Va. and graduated from the University of Richmond and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY, where he earned a Th.M degree. He was honored by the University of Richmond with a DD degree, and by Stetson University with a DD degree.
He was an honorary member of Florida Blue Key and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He was Chaplain at the Florida House of Representatives. He was a member of the Foreign Mission Board, a Trustee of the Baptist Foundation of South Carolina, State Mission Board of Florida, Member and president of Radio and Television Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.
He served seven pastorates: Gwathmey Baptist in Ashland, ass't pastor of Second Baptist in Richmond, Carlyle Avenue Baptist in Louisville, First Baptist in Front Royal, Talbot Park Baptist in Norfolk, First Baptist in Orangeburg, SC, First Baptist in Gainesville, FL. In addition, he was invited to supply in many pulpits and was a popular banquet speaker. Since 1978, he made sample furniture and wooden dolls.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 16 at Cannon Memorial Chapel on the campus of the University of Richmond.
