He is survived by his wife, Gail Woodson Griffey; one son, Andrew L. Griffey, III, and his wife, Lynn, of Mechanicsville; one grandson, Evan Nicholas Griffey; four sisters, Mary Bowman and Jewell Donovan, both of Cocoa Beach, FL, Virginia Short of Palm Bay, FL, and Gwen Gegray of Virginia Beach, VA.

Mr. Griffey was a longtime resident of Manakin-Sabot and was a practicing architect in the Richmond area since 1958. He was a graduate of Ohio State University in 1958, served on the Goochland County Planning Commission from 1972-1981, and was chairman for five of those years. He was instrumental in developing the Goochland Comprehensive Land Use Plan.

The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2002, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue, followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Manakin Fire and Rescue Company No. 1.
