The Senior Adult Committee exercises oversight responsibility of the senior adult activities within the church. These activities are organized and scheduled by the staff liaison, and are usually in the form of a monthly, one-day outing to some place of interest. Once each year, when feasible, a much longer activity is planned.
In the past years, nearly every historical site, museum, etc. has been visited, such as Washington, D.C., Williamsburg, Norfolk, Lynchburg, Lexington, Staunton and many others.Other visits have been made to home sites of the nation's founding fathers, trips have been made to the Museum and White House of the Confederacy as well as the White House in Washington; guided tours of numerous presidential homes.
Additional trips have been made to scenic portions of this country, such as Wisconsin, Michigan, New Mexico, Arizona, New England, and even to portions of eastern Canada.
This is a very active group of senior adults.
The group is known as Second Cousins, named in honor of Dr. Solon B. Cousins, a former pastor of the church, later professor of religion and philosophy at the University of Richmond. He was a mentor and friend to countless ministers who were taught and influenced by him and he was much beloved by all who knew him.
Watch for announcements in the church bulletin each week and in the Ideal for information concerning activities and we invite you to join in. You will be most welcome.
This is a new feature embraced by Second Baptist. It serves those who choose to remain in their homes rather than move to a retirement home or community.
The AHM will be available to any who need its services. It will provide transportation for members who need to keep doctor appointments, go to the store or bank, etc.
It will assist with personal business matters when requested. It will offer nutritional advice, and perform wellness monitoring. Also, advice regarding prescription medication will be available from this ministry.
Further, there will be spiritual services, such as Communion Service, and the provision of devotional material.
With the coming of enlarged facilities, day care may be provided for some of our AHM participants.
