Worship Care – FAQ

How many times should I volunteer?

By checking 1 box, you are agreeing to work three Sundays in a specific quarter.  Because there are over 950 volunteer spaces to be filled in 2012 we are hopeful that many of you will check  2 or 3 boxes, agreeing to work 6 or 9 times during the year.

How will I know my assigned Sunday?

A Calendar for 2012 will be emailed to each volunteer at the beginning of the year.  You will also receive an updated calendar before each quarter you are scheduled to work and a reminder email the week prior to your service.

What do I do if I am not able to work on the Sunday I signed up for?

If you find that you are unable to work simply “reply all” to the email containing the schedule for the current quarter and ask to switch with another volunteer.  Finding your own sub is very helpful to the Worship Care Director!

Who should volunteer?

Adults of all ages are needed to work in Worship Care.  It would be very difficult to fill our calendar with only the parents of Preschoolers.  Middle School and High School students are a very valuable part of the Worship Care team.  They are welcomed to assist in a classroom and we encourage them to sign up on the online form.  Elementary age children may help when their parent is volunteering.

Will I receive training?

In 2012, Worship Care training will be available for any interested volunteer just prior to the beginning of each quarter.

Will I work alone?

Our ‘Safe at Second Guidelines for Working with Preschoolers’ state that two adults will be present when working with children.  If you do not sign up with another adult we will assign another adult to work with you.

What will we do during the Worship Hour?

Age appropriate activities are available in each classroom.  On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month the Three Year Olds, Pre-Kindergartners and Kindergartners will go to the Children’s Sermon in the Chapel or Sanctuary.  It is our hope that we will also be able to offer Worship Builders during the 11:00 Service in 2012.  Worship Builders uses music and storytelling to provide an extension to the Sunday School lesson for our older preschoolers.
