Education, Discipleship & Leadership
“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Ps. 37:4
Get Connected!
Being in a large church has many wonderful advantages, but how do you get to know others in a more personal way? How do you grow in your discipleship?
One answer is to discover and connect into a small group. We have multiple avenues for you. Within our Adult ministry, we cater towards young adults, senior adults, women, men, moms, and so many others. Connecting is all about connecting to God through worship. The other connection is to others in the Body of Christ through Bible study, Sunday School class or other places where we come together to study God’s Word as we experience the ”loving community” at Second. The Growing piece is part of our participation in the group, or our individual study of God’s Word and practicing the disciplines of discipleship such as prayer, giving, Bible study and sharing as we are ”transformed by Christ.” Serving reflects those wonderful experiences where you minister to others, inside the church or around the world in “unbounded service.” There are various groups, serving teams, mission teams and more to choose from.
We are a Loving community transformed by Christ for unbounded service. Or to put it another way: We are Connecting, Growing, and Serving as we grow as Disciples of Jesus Christ. What does this all mean and how do these concepts all interelate? That is one of the basic discipleship questions that we need to ask ourselves as we seek God’s leading for each of us.
Here are a few ways to get connected into a small group setting:
- Sunday School for Adults – On Sunday mornings we meet at 9:45 AM. to see our complete list of Sunday School classes, go here.
- Women’s Bible Studies - We have multiple classes offered throughout the year on week day mornings, as well as during the Sunday School hour. For more on our women’s ministry, go here.
- Men’s Bible Study – We offer a Monday evening class at 8:00pm in the Church Library.
- Young Adults – There is Wednesday night Bible study in room FLC 251 which meets year round, as well as other activities through the year. For more on our Young Adults, go here.
Leadership
Second Baptist Church wants to help our members grow both in Christ and in leadership. We have an Emerging Leaders Track that helps foster that growth. By using established leadership to train and We are excited about the leadership opportunities this Track provides, such as leadership involvement, mentoring, and getting to know other leaders such as Sunday School teachers, deacons, and staff.
